Old Man on Bridge
Fabulous, rare and monumental Emile Galle Landscape vase with an old man crossing an old bridge a massive18.5 inches tall made in mid 1908 in yellows and brown. In early 1908 it was agreed at the Galle factory that they would create new designs beyond those usually approved by Emile Galle, most notably the earliest Landscapes, -the first examples of these, like this, often included man made features and even people. By late 1908 it was agreed that man made objects and people would be almost completely removed from all designs, a number of these were re-instated in 1919/20, but in this case the revised 1919/20 design (see example below) featured a young man crossing a modern bridge not an old man crossing an old bridge, it has often been speculated whether the older man was meant to be in honour of Emile himself.
